HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

I lay here early in the morning trying to gather the motivation to do SOMETHING. As an end result I am still laying here attempting to write a blog post. This is probably less productive than sleep.  As I pondered what I should write about, I came across that today is Checkers Day as well as Dog in Politics Day. Yes, I am writing a blog post about Dogs in Politics as well as checkers. Why not combine the two and tell you about a political dog named Checkers! :)

President Nixon with Checkers
Richard M. Nixon, speaking on TV about the dog given to him after he was accused of accepting improper gift

"A man down in Texas heard Pat on the radio mention the fact that our two daughters would like to have a dog. And believe it or not, the day before we left on this campaign trip we got a message from Union Station in Baltimore, saying they had a package for us. We went down to get it. You know what it was? It was a little cocker spaniel in a crate that he sent all the way from Texas.... And our little girl, Tricia, the six-year-old, named it Checkers. And you know the kids love the dog and I just want to say this, right now, that regardless of what they [the Press] have to say about it, we are going to keep it."

This speech later became know as the "Checkers Speech," and saved Nixon's political career. It also made Checkers one of the most famous dogs in political history. The body of Checkers was exhumed three years after Nixon died, and moved to the Nixon Library grounds, near the graves of the late president and his wife.

HAPPY CHECKERS AND DOGS IN POLITICS DAY!

STUDENT BANNED FROM USING PURPLE VIOLIN

LINK TO ARTICLE
There are MANY things that bug me. Stupid Schools are one of them:

Camille Cruz, an eleven year old student in New Mexico, was banned from using a violin given to her by her grandmother because it was purple. School Officials said that the violin was a classroom distraction and that she need to get a traditional colored instrument. The school had violins to rent for $30 dollars, but the cost was too much for Camille's family. The school said they would waive the fee but for Camillles mother it was more than just the money. She wanted to show her daughter how you could fight for your beliefs. For the time being, Camille has switched out of orchestra to choir.

There are many ways to evaluate this scenario. Being a musician I feel like my opinion is very firm and strong. The article quoted one orchestra student saying that colored instruments tend to be of lesser quality. Not once was it stated that Camille's violin was of lesser quality. Being a musician I can say that colored instruments such as purple to tend to be of lesser quality. Camille's instrument may have been an exception. The schools only stated reason to make her change her instrument was that it was a distraction. GROW UP. An instrument of a different color may be a slight distraction but everyone will soon get over it. The teacher should have played the instrument and then determined if it was a quality issue instead of making up poor excuses. That's what I would have done. If it was a quality issue then I would make sure to give my students the best possible instrument I can.

WHY?!

WHY?! I do a lot of things without thinking about it and this is definitely one of them.  Why would anyone want to start a blog? Oh well, it's created so I might as well use it. Who knows, maybe it could polish up some English skills.
Well, I'm Bob. Yes, Bob. B.O.B. Don't judge me. I am a senior in HS. Small town Iowa. Where exactly? None of your business. I play soccer. #9. I score goals like it's my job. Well, at least I try and that is what matters, isn't it?
Oh, I play the violin too. I guess I am decent. That is what people tell me. I plan on majoring in Violin Performance next year. Hopefully, it gets me somewhere. Any fellow music nerds who happen to unfortunately stumble upon this, I am currently working on Saint-Saens #3 and Bach Partita in E.
I like Politics, Government, and Law. Yes, I love it all! If I am not a violinist I will end up slaving my life away as a public defender. Why? If I am a lawyer I best darn well see the court room. I might run for public office, but nothing to big. I hate skeletons and I hate closets. Congrats if you get the reference I just made.
I have a girlfriend. Yes. She is nice. Nothing more needs to be said! haha

So, I'm Bob. This is my blog. Enjoy...
